Flappy Bird is a simple mobile-based application created by Vietnamese game developer Dong Nguyen. The game was released in May 2013 by Nguyen’s game development company dotGEARS. There was little flapping going on for the first year, until suddenly in early 2014 the game surged in popularity, seemingly going viral over-night. By the end of January 2014, it was the most downloaded application in both the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android.

Sadly, Flappy Bird was removed from the App Store by Nguyen on Febuary 10, 2014. He felt guilty for creating a game he considered to be highly addictive and overused. The sudden removal of the app from the App Store made phones that still possessed the app before the removal worth a large amount online. Several iPhones were known to have sold for upwards of several thousand dollars each (USD).

Since the removal of Flappy Bird from the app store in early 2014, the game has not been near as accessible. Our aim when creating this Flappy Bird website was to fix that all together by proving a website where anyone can play Flappy Bird for free! Not only can you play the original game on both your phone and desktop, but you’re able to submit your highscore to a global leaderboard.

Playing Flappy Bird is a simple concept. Flap the bird through the pipes without hitting one. If you hit a pipe, the bird will fall and you lose. Your flappy bird will slightly flap upwards each time you tap your mobile-device screen or click on your desktop. If the screen does not get tapped or clicked, the bird will fall due to gravity.

Don’t get discouraged if your bird won’t flap through the pipes the first several, or many times. Not all birds are perfect. However, if you do feel rage when your bird doesn’t make it through the pipes, feel free to smash them instead by playing the official Flappy Smash remaster here on our website.
